I think anyone would get annoyed if suddenly everyone in the world started acting nice to them. It would get boring after a while and you would get suspicious, or just really want someone to say something negative about you. (best parrallel I could think of right now)

As I have said before, I don't want events abolished (you would see that if you read my first post), maybe the title is what you dislike.
Yes it's ironic that all these people who claim to love their fun so much get all bent out of shape when someone posts something they don't agree with... These people must REALLY be fun lovers! /sarcasm

If you don't like what he says, practice what you preach and ignore it. Or you can prove how big of a hypocrite you are and flame him, your decision.

They seem to have little benefit, either than the "fun" that you may have (oh yes, PUGing in the Deep was REALLY fun).

I don't know about everyone else, but I think it's about time they just let us have our plain old weekends back.
I don't understand your logic at all. If these events cause the event areas to be flooded with people, causing lag for those areas, it would seem the other places not affected by the event would have less lag than normal. And since the events have "little benefit" to you, you would certainly not partake and would be able to enjoy lag-free play in less congested areas for the weekend of the event. I would think you would be calling upon ANet to have these events more often, not less.

I like the events. This game would bore me other wise and all my other games suck and outside sucks. Basically the events are good and they should keep doing them till Nightfall, although I think they will run out of content to event upon before then.

So keep it up anet don't listen to people who don't want it they dont' really matter! :P

The servers actually "can" handle large pools of players in one area, they're called "DISTRICTS"

To the OP: Honestly, I don't know what you're complaining about. ANet now has an events team dedicated to bringing more of these events. I can't see how more content can ever be a bad thing. Personally, these events have made me play more than I usually would. Besides, the more people who play, the merrier.

Wow harsh responses. Actually he does have some valid points - having an event every weekend by default will no longer make them "special events" they just become the common weekend, secondly, bugs etc do get introduced some of which have taken ages to get fixed. Thirdly, not like these "increase the numbers a bit" events are all that interesting or special... they just up the numbers/drops and add more access points. I dunno, maybe some find that more "fun" but it's not something "special". Your grinding/farming just got speeded up for you.

Anyway, why is it popularity only goes up when these events happen? Where is everyone the rest of the time? Factions really that boring that it needs regular events to drag people there?

I'd like to see an event that applied to 'me'. I don't have factions and I don't like PvP. And so far I haven't seen anything that makes things better for me. If these were incentives to help encourage me to buy nightfall, they are falling short. As well when I ramp up to do a run or mission or quest or something only to find out that the servers are down all night because of all the increased activity, doesn't impress me either. But as usual I'm a minority...

I think the events are great, long may they continue, and props to Anet for doing them.

Personally the elite mission and PvP weekends aren't my 'thing', so the only teeny tiny gripe I have with them, is that they draw people away from regular PvE (which is my 'thing'), meaning some of the later mission outposts are even more empty than usual!

I'd rather have the events and a couple of days of empty outposts though, don't get me wrong.

Curse You, your logic is totally flawed. Players moving from one area of the game to an other area do not cause a "sudden load". The number of districts in one area doesn't matter much as long as the number of districts overall doesn't increase. Each district is being handeled by a different individual server in the data center. The data center adapts dynamically by starting new district servers in the area with high load, and shutting down district servers in areas with low load. Since the overall number of players hasn't increased much during these special events, the load on the server (processing and bandwidth) hasn't increased much either.

I have no problems with the events.
The preview and double factions were my favorites.

The only little problem I have is for those people who, either only have prophecies or prefer playing in Tyria. Aside from the PvP events all the others have benefited Factions players.

I think Anet needs to include Prophecies players in some of these PvE events.

Other than that, let them give us something different every weekend I say

For the most part - GJ ANET! (just get Tyria involved)

The events help focus the community to an area. This makes it easier to build teams for the special events. IMO, This is a good thing. I do not see any logical disadvantage; lag in town (really, this is your complaint?), a bug is added (well have to minorly agree with you there). If you do not like the events, ignore them. It really is that simple. I have not participated in several and I did not feel any displeasure with those that did. The few that I did participate, I enjoyed.

And for those that mention the sarcasm in peoples earlier posts as being FLAMES. Are you really that sensitive? I did not see anything harsh or mean??? Should they be nice to you even thou you are lobbying for their parties to be takin away...

Whether I partake in these events, or whether I skip them, it really does come down to one thing:

A choice.

And it's not common to be given one of these without it hinging on some devastating effect one way or the other. This choice happens to rely only on your entertainment value given the options in front of you. I have yet to be hindered in any way during these tidbits of fun ANet has given us, and to be honest, it clearly shows they do care about our interests in their products.

As far as our OP goes, I completely understand your point of view, just don't forget this world of Guild Wars is enormous, but only as big as you choose it to be. Having another reason to join your friends online (whether you refer to it as a special event, or not) can't be anything but positive.

Options are always plus

It's not about the events people. There is an underlying problem here. If you see the events as nothing more than anet giving us something fun to do, you have been deceived.

A) Even if the OP has a point, he's approaching it the wrong way. "Stop the Events" is the thread title. It begs to be misunderstood.

B) It's extremely ungrateful for the amount of attention we DO get from Anet.

c) Someone close and delete this thread...Please.

Why ignore it? Then we'd have a thread full of people agreeing with the OP, and what would the point of such a thread be? Contrary opinions should ALWAYS be shared, it's the manner in which those opinions are presented that matters.

I really wasn't trying to be cynical. I truly believe they are trying to keep this ship from sinking till the next chapter. They have to do something to keep people buying factions, and keep people playing till Nightfall comes out.

Am I so far off, that this isn't what they are trying to do?
